Today, I wrote an email to three physicians at Harvard explaining how and when to use a hyphen in words with prefixes. My job sure is surreal sometimes. |

Me too
My string of vehicular bad luck (faulty vehicle speed sensor, broken windshield wiper motor) hit its peak this morning (I hope!) when I was rear-ended at a red light on 15th Ave NW after dropping Erick off at work. I am one hundred percent fine, as was the (very nice and apologetic) man who hit me, but my car needs some help. So I'm dropping it off in an hour at a body shop and picking up a rental car. This is the first car accident I've been in that was totally not my fault. It is amazing how nice the insurance companies are being to me! Taking care of things immediately, giving me straight answers, even giving me a ride to Enterprise and letting me pick out my own rental car. And they're paying for absolutely everything. Maybe they're afraid I'm going to threaten to sue. Or maybe it's that I'm in Seattle rather than New York. I am so very glad I don't live in New York anymore. This would be so much harder to deal with there. Plus, the guy who hit me probably would have yelled at me and tried to make it seem like it was my fault. |

Today is a good day
The sun is shining, I got a raise, the daffodils are blooming like crazy, my too-tight jeans sort of fit, I'm wearing pink sneakers, and I'm about to go have lunch with my love. Who could ask for anything more? |

More knitting projects
I made my sister a hat and scarf and slippersocks for her 23rd birthday. Isn't she the cutest? |

Sarah, Ace Knitter
So I completed -- and unravelled -- my very first sweater last night. It looked okay when I finished it, except for a couple of fixable holes and its suspiciously small size. And then I put it on. Holy cow was it too small. Possibly the fact that I used four and a quarter skeins of yarn instead of the nine called for by the pattern had some significance. Erick recommended I pass it on to a child with questionable fashion sense (he quickly added that when he was a child, he didn't remember any of the other kids wearing sweaters). Instead, I stayed up until 3:30 unravelling it, and today I will start over. Knitting is fun! In other news, I spent eighty whole dollars on one (1) pair of pants yesterday. And that was after the twenty percent off. But man, they sure are soft. And the fact that I (sort of?) incorporated a bargain into my ridiculous expenditure has to say something for my (yuppie! yuppie!) street cred. Right? |

Donnie Darko
Erick and I watched Donnie Darko last night. Wow, was it a good movie. It was so good that I didn't pick up my knitting once during the whole movie. I was one hundred percent rapt. And now I have a monster-sized infatuation with both Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal. I can't wait to see Secretary. |

Ani D and Me
Not much has made me feel like writing lately. What with all of this change (falling crazy in love, moving from New York to Seattle, totally changing my social circle), I think I've been putting all of my energy into remembering who I am in my head. I haven't felt like I've had the energy to get that accurately on "paper." But today I've been feeling the desperate need to create more and to document more. Maybe this whole livejournal thing will help with that. I watched most of Render tonight, a documentary by Ani DiFranco about herself and her music and various political issues. I am almost embarrassed to admit how much of an Ani D fan I am -- but there it is. I love me some Ani D. I love her political ideals, I love all of her songs (well, except for "Napoleon" and its gratuitous use of the word "fuck" and "How Have You Been?" because she says "been" like "bean" and that really bugs me), and I love her "little folk singer" persona. Most of all, I love that listening to her music makes me need to get out there and make more and do more. I think what I really need is to find someplace to volunteer. I have all of this time, and I'm not doing nearly enough with it. So there you go. I'm going to go do some research before I lose my ambition. |

My newest obsession
About once every three months, I pick up a new "hobby." This season's obsession is knitting. It's fun to make things that are actually usable, plus all the cool kids are doing it! I read an article today that calls knitting "the new yoga." ( Want to see what I've made? ) |
